PROPER THIN ADHERED MASONRY DETAILING FOR THE MODERN AGE AND ENERGY CODES

In this presentation, we discuss the design and construction factors that impact the long-term performance of continuously insulated thin adhered masonry veneers assemblies that meet the requirements of the Energy Code. Architectural detailing for thin adhered masonry veneers promoting moisture management principles and considerations for control of movement in thin adhered masonry walls are covered.

Specifically, we will focus on:
• Understand the detailing elements required for effective moisture management in the various key areas of masonry veneer walls.
• Understand how to design and detail thin adhered masonry to the requirements of the Energy Codes
• Identify guidelines to follow in the design of a movement joint system to control differential movement in thin adhered masonry veneer walls.
• Appreciate the effects of workmanship and environmental factors in the effective implementation of the design.
