COVID-19 Response
As of May 5, Governor Cooper announced that summer day camps are likely to open this summer. Community Design Studio is committed to hosting both camps, and will keep those who register updated on details as recommendations are published from local officials as well as the CDC. We are monitoring specific guidelines carefully, and will work within these to ensure student and instructor safety. We are confident that our design thinking skills will serve us well as we innovate through this challenge! Instructors Elise Barrella, Ph.D, PE and Lauren Frye, AIA have already altered their spring design courses for e-learning in both K-12 and University environments, and will bring this experience to bear on camps if necessary.
COVID-19 & Resilience
We know that the COVID-19 pandemic has drastically altered everyone’s lives in our community. We hope that you and yours are weathering these unprecedented times. One thing we have noticed is that times of crisis can be opportunities for those with resilience, creativity, and strong leadership skills to shine as they quickly adapt to new circumstances. At times like these, we see the benefits of these skills playing out in our communities, homes, and individual lives. We look forward to enhancing students’ innate creativity and adaptability this summer!
Camp Affordability
We are committed to making our summer camps affordable for EVERY high school student in Winston-Salem. The true cost of camp, including space rental, instructor time, materials, and daily lunch is $300; registration is $50. We welcome any family who wishes to do so to sponsor your student, or others via a $250 tax deductible donation.
Spread the Word!
Lastly, we hope you’ll spread the word about camp to your friends! We plan to cap the camps at 15 students – 8 if gatherings of 10 or fewer are mandated – so with only two camps being offered, spots are likely fill up! Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates and inspiration.
